Traviata in virtual space

La Traviata in Virtual Reality is the first attempt to tailor an opera to the metaverse. Selected scenes from Verdi's La Traviata are presented in virtual reality for our delectation. The opera, or at least a 49-minute short film version of it, can be viewed in 360° and experienced in its entirety with the help of OCULUS Quest 2 technology. The entrance hall of the House of Music is the setting for five virtual reality stations that will allow five visitors to simultaneously view La Traviata from hitherto unseen perspectives: from the singers' side and floating above the orchestra, in a dream version that will surely just be the first step in the application of this technology, and of new technologies in general in the theatrical world.

The La Traviata in Virtual Reality project has been developed by the Cieli Vibranti Cultural Institute in Brescia and the design and art company Scena Urbana, with the support of the Fondazione Cariplo charitable foundation, and created by Fabio Larovere, Andrea Faini, Dario Pasotti and Anna Berna. The artistic project was led by baritone, actor and director Luca Micheletti, who also imagined short scenes to link musical fragments with, for example, scenes of artists preparing make-up for the piece. The short film was shot at the Teatro all'Antica and Palazzo Giardino Sabbioneta, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The music is performed by La Piccola Orchestra Lumière conducted by Mario Pan.
