Mátyás Antal, József Balog, Gábor Boldoczki and the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra
Mátyás Antal, József Balog, Gábor Boldoczki and the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra
This programme is held in Hungarian.
At the first classical music concert of our 2025/26 season, one of Hungary's most outstanding ensembles, the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra, returns to the House of Music, this time conducted by the true doyen of Hungarian classical music, Mátyás Antal, who turns 80 this year.
Mozart's miniature masterpiece, the Adagio and Fugue in C minor, composed in the spirit of Bach, will be performed first, followed by Shostakovich's First Piano Concerto, in which the trumpet, unusually, plays a role equal to that of the solo piano. Two internationally acclaimed artists, József Balog and Gábor Boldoczki, will join the orchestra for a performance of this piece of stunning virtuosity. The work will conclude with Schubert's highly Mozartian-influenced Fifth Symphony, written when the composer was only nineteen years old. As audiences have come to expect, the works will be accompanied by a rich oral presentation, hosted this time by Szilvia Becze.
