Georgian melodies and musical intruments with Sára Bolyki
The programme is held in Hungarian.
Georgia, located on the border of Europe and Asia in the Caucasus, not only boasts beautiful landscapes, a millennia-old wine culture, and legendary hospitality but also has a unique musical tradition that is worthy of the attention of travelers around the world. The main characteristic of this tradition is polyphonic singing, which takes on various forms in the different corners of the small country: bold clashes filled with resounding virtuosity appear just as much as the fine harmony of intertwining melismas.
Participants in the workshop will get a taste of this extremely rich tradition while getting acquainted with the diversity of the local culture, the most characteristic sounds, rhythms, and instruments of folk music. They can participate in the supra, the traditional festive feast where toasts are sung together by hosts and guests. Finally, they can also learn a Christmas carol, joining from afar with Georgia, which celebrates the second day of Christmas according to the Julian calendar.
A new series entitled World Village+ is launching at the House of Music, which, as a companion to Balázs Weyer's educational music series World Village, focuses on playing music together in a workshop format.
