The duo of American multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Zucker and Hungarian drummer Attila Gyárfás will present their second album at the House of Music. Its ten-track collection took its final shape over several years of working together and touring internationally. At their concert, contemporary chamber music, experimental jazz, alternative rock and free improvisation come together in a thrilling, psychedelic musical journey.
The two-piece ensemble of American multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Zucker (piano, synthesizer, vocals) and Hungarian drummer Attila Gyárfás has a monumental psychedelic sound that belies its size. Although they live on different continents, over the years Zucker and Gyárfás have developed a truly special musical rapport in their wide-ranging and ambitious duo project, performing at an array of venues around the world: from candlelit jazz clubs in Budapest, Istanbul, Edinburgh and New York to alternative concert spaces in converted warehouses in St. Louis and Timișoara. Their performances are captivating musical journeys, moving almost imperceptibly between complex, contrapuntal chamber-music passages, the anthemic melodies of alternative rock, jazz in shifting time signatures, intimate lullabies and noisy, improvisational soundscapes.
Over the past five years, the duo has performed in 16 countries across Europe and North America. Their 2026 season includes appearances at Austria’s Bezau Beatz Festival and Cologne Jazzweek, following a 14-date spring tour through Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia. The tour also featured GRAMMY-winning multi-instrumentalist Bam Rodríguez. Previous performances include a show presented by Riga’s Skaņu Mežs, two concerts at Romania’s Roland Jazz Fest, and two appearances at Budapest’s Opus Jazz Club.
The duo’s debut album, Cities and Deserts 2021, was released by Hunnia Records. Avant Music News praised the record: “An unusual, avant-garde and technically complex work that also touches the emotions… Two thumbs up, highly recommended.” Cities and Deserts was named among the best Hungarian jazz albums of 2022 in Jazz.hu’s readers’ poll.
Their second album is a ten-part composition written by Zucker in 2022 and further developed by the duo over the years during their joint tours and performances. It was recorded in New York in 2025 as a live studio recording, immediately after an eleven-date US tour. The album will be released on March 19, 2027, by Boomslang Records.
The duo will celebrate the album’s release on March 24, 2027, at the House of Music, where they will perform the new album in its entirety.
