2027 kicks off with live music! We will hear a few of Schubert’s beautiful songs and evoke the Viennese atmosphere of the “Schubertiads” on the Hangadó Senior stage together with pianist Péter Ittzés and singer Berta Ittzés. 230 years ago, in January, the master who is often called the first Romantic was born; he lived in Vienna at the same time as Beethoven, working as a composer and pianist—which, let’s admit, cannot have been an easy path! To some extent he remained “invisible” beside his great contemporary, but posterity knows and loves Schubert’s music. From his grandiose oeuvre we have prepared an excellent selection!
Franz Schubert is one of the most distinctive figures in music history: a withdrawn Viennese genius who received hardly any recognition during his lifetime, yet left behind more than a thousand works. His songs—such as Erlkönig or Winterreise—revolutionized the genre, since the piano and the voice are given completely equal roles in them. His music forms a bridge between Classicism and Romanticism while conveying deep human emotions with simple yet brilliant means. The Schubertiads held among friends became legendary, clearly showing that Schubert was not a star of the concert halls, but a master of intimate musical moments. Symphonies, sonatas, chamber music, sacred music. A colorful palette, and only 31 years! After Beethoven’s death he is said to have remarked: “Who can write anything after Beethoven?” And just a year later he is buried beside his great role model, at his own request. He was able to step out of the “shadow” for barely a year, yet despite his worsening illness he continued to create with full force! His oeuvre contains marvelous works, from which, on this occasion, pianist Péter Ittzés and singer Berta Ittzés have made a selection, since with their contribution the Schubert Year begins at the House of Music Hungary! A life path illustrated with music, numerous anecdotes and a wonderful atmosphere can be expected, provided by Dóra Tápai, conductor, secondary school music teacher, and music educator at the House of Music Hungary.
