Lambchop (USA)
One of the best and most important American alt‑country, chamber pop, indietronica bands of the last thirty years, Lambchop is giving its first concert in Hungary – An Evening with Lambchop will be an intimate, stripped‑down presentation of the songs, guaranteed to be a memorable show.
On this duo tour, Lambchop frontman, songwriter and only permanent member Kurt Wagner is joined by Minneapolis musician and producer Andrew Broder, who has been a close creative partner on recent Lambchop albums, 2022’s The Bible and 2021’s Showtunes. Together they have developed a live performance style that is loose, curious and pulsating – where the songs can stretch out, transform and gently take on new shapes from night to night.
The concerts held at more intimate venues across Europe and the United Kingdom offer a rare opportunity to experience the world of Lambchop up close: Kurt Wagner’s distinctive voice and songwriting are at the centre, while Broder’s creative sound world expands the music in new directions.
Lambchop has never sounded quite like this. In this stripped‑down line‑up, Wagner and Broder open up the songs and let them go wherever they want – giving space to silence, electronics and improvisation to transform familiar material in unexpected ways. For both long‑time fans and new listeners, this tour showcases a Lambchop that is constantly seeking new paths, evolving and full of surprises.
The band released its debut album, I Hope You’re Sitting Down/Jack’s Tulips, in 1994, and their subsequent records inhabited the worlds of alt‑country, slowcore, chamber pop and art pop with their distinctive songs. Their 2000 LP Nixon is one of the peaks of the genre and frequently appears on various best‑albums lists. In the 2000s, chamber‑pop‑inflected Americana was dominant, then from the mid‑2010s indietronica, ambient pop and microhouse also appeared on the band’s palette. On the most recent records, the early chamber pop and the later indietronica are drawing closer to each other.
