SOLD-OUT - Loudspeaker Global - Songs of the lost Smyrna
The songs of the former Smyrna, reflecting the musical influences of the Greek, Turkish, Armenian and Jewish populations, were performed again in their first new home in the cafés of the kafe aman, the secluded alleys of Greek port cities, in the 1920s and 1930s, dissolving in sensual dance rhythms, virtuoso instrumental playing and uninhibited singing, defiantly preserving the exuberant sound of the former peace of Anatolia, in Greek, the 'Sunrise', and a thick drop of the bitterness of unprocessable losses. In a unique programme entitled Songs of Lost Smyrna, authentic melodies from the two nations' shared song treasures are performed in Greek and Turkish, along with uplifting instrumental and vocal improvisations that bring listeners even closer to the musical treasures of the fabled East.
