András Dés curatorial concert: 3 in 1
András Dés curatorial concert: 3 in 1
From time to time, the House of Music Hungary delegates curatorial duties to an artist who, in a series of weekend programmes, then presents the current state of a musical world close to their heart. The third such weekend, 17-18 September, will be hosted by András Dés, who will host a joint Austrian-Hungarian weekend offering his guests a unique programme of international collaborators and formations that have never before appeared on the same stage. On the first day, outstanding musicians from the middle generation of the Austrian and Hungarian jazz scene will play together for the first time in three ensembles created especially for this evening.
The Austro-Hungarian cultural dialogue easily finds common points of reference thanks to the similarities, but at the same time, thanks to the differences, it can easily become a new source of inspiration for the two parties. The genre of jazz is based on openness and, like a sponge, it embraces all opposing influences. Despite this, no real dialogue has been established between the jazz scene in Vienna and Budapest, which – knowing the amazingly strong and characterful jazz worlds of the two cities – is a serious omission. András Dés wants to make up for this shortfall with the concert that will be held on the first night of his curatorial weekend at the House of Music. As the Hungarian percussionist has been living in the Austrian capital for almost 4 years and was annoyed day by day that the great musician friends he met in Vienna and already well-known Budapest musicians knew nothing about each other, he decided to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the House of Music and bring together some of his favourite musicians, trusting that this evening can be the first step of long-term, fruitful collaborations. Prominent musicians from the middle generation of Austrian and Hungarian jazz life will play together in three ensembles created especially for this evening for the first time, but we hope not for the last time.
