From the mid-1920s, Louis Armstrong (1901-1971) made a multitude of seminal recordings with his Hot Five and Hot Seven ensembles, and later with his big bands. His mature trumpet sound, his improvisational skills and his harmonic innovations have influenced many generations of musicians. In autumn 2023, Gábor Turi's Free Seminar in Jazz will continue with a series of presentations on the great personalities of jazz, the first of which will focus on Louis Armstrong.
