Lecture presenting the oeuvre of László Lajtha as composer and ethnomusicologist.

This lecture is held in Hungarian. The lecture presents the versatile oeuvre of László Lajtha. The talk participants are music historian Emőke Solymosi-Tari and ethnomusicologist István Pávai. The lecture contextualizes the following concert commemorating the 130th anniversary if Lajtha's birth.

Lajtha played a decisive role in 20th century Hungarian music history. He is known to the general public primarily for his work as a composer. Less well known is the fact that, alongside Bartók and Kodály, he is one of the greatest early scholars of folk music, and described the important basic contexts of music folklore, carrying out scholarly monographic investigations. His research approach has become an integral part of the main narratives of ethnomusicology in Hungary and still determines the basic guidelines for it today. The House of Music Hungary would like to honour the memory of this renowned composer and folk music researcher with a Lajtha-themed day. On the afternoon of Lajtha Day, a roundtable discussion and a lecture by the Free University will introduce the audience to his legacy.
