Rock movie club - Time Stands Still (1985)
This retrospective adolescent film has been compared by some to the American cult film Rebel Without A Cause (1955), which was only released in Hungary around 1980. Both films focus on disillusioned young people, and Gothár's work, which evoked the Budapest of the early sixties, drew heavily on rock and roll from overseas. Last but not least, it featured many figures from the Hungarian underground music scene of the era, from Károly Hunyadi of Balaton to Sándor Sőth of Spenót.
Contemporary Hungarian film and (rock) music have been in contact practically since the late 1960s. Sometimes more intensively, sometimes more loosely, but they are essentially inseparable. Before the screenings, Béla Szilárd Jávorszky will talk briefly about the genesis and pop-historical significance of these works, followed by a discussion with a guest film aesthetics expert on the relevant domestic and international trends.
