Chamber pieces from one of the most frequently performed French music composers of our time will be performed at the Composers? Present! series. Éric Tanguy further expands the harmonic worlds of Debussy and Ravel; his music is shrouded in a mysterious lyricism, but he never shies away from the repetition of short motifs, or from powerful gestures and intensifications alongside broad melodic lines. His imaginative, playful and sensuously flowing music conceals a carefully crafted language and generally rigorous formal structures.

Hailing from Caen, Éric Tanguy has won numerous awards, including the SACEM lifetime achievement award, the French equivalent of the Artisjus. He has been invited by the French Academy in Rome, the Kone Foundation in Finland, the Tanglewood Music Centre, the Besançon International Music Festival and the Prussian Cove Chamber Music Festival and is a guest professor at masterclasses all around the globe. His more than one hundred compositions include works for solo instrument, chamber and concerto works, choral works and symphonies, performed by some of the day's most distinguished conductors, soloists and orchestras, from Esa-Pekka Salonen to Seiji Ozawa and Michel Plasson, from Mstislav Rostropovich to Juliet Pusker and Emmanuel Pahud, and from Ensemble Intercontemporain to the Scottish Chamber Orchestra to the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In keeping with the title for this series of contemporary composers' evenings, Tanguy will be present in person to talk about the works, and the process of their creation between performances of the chamber music itself.
