SOLD-OUT - Hungarian Anthem 200
The poem, a masterpiece, went unpublished for many years; a few people read it in a literary almanac, then it was almost forgotten until Endre Bartay, the director of the National Theatre, a man with a flair for cultural management, highlighted it and put it out to tender twenty-one years after it was written. Why was Kölcsey's message still relevant in 1844? Who entered the competition? Why was Erkel the winner? How did the lines of the Hymn resonate with our national composer and how did the song become a true community song? The literary and musical evening will focus on the novelistic story of the Hungarian National Anthem, precisely on the 200th anniversary of the creation of the Hymn, on the Day of Hungarian Culture, which is also the one-year anniversary of the House of Music, Hungary. The host and narrator is András Batta, the guest is Ákos Somogyváry, conductor, the president of the Erkel Ferenc Society, a researcher of the Anthem, and the chamber ensemble of musicians of the Philharmonic Society. The choir will - we hope - be the audience gathered for the commemoration itself. The lecture will be held in hungarian.
