SOLD-OUT - Wolfgang Voigt – Rückverzauberung | Magamura | CT Kidobó
Wolfgang Voigt, better known as GAS, is a pioneer of minimal techno from Cologne. As well as being a music producer and co-founder of Kompakt, the best-known German electronic music label, he is also active as a visual artist. For more than 25 years he has been redrawing the boundaries between techno and art, minimal and ambient under numerous project names (Mike Ink, Love Inc., Studio1, Freiland, Sog), of which GAS is the most influential. This time, however, he is coming to the House of Music with a self-titled project, Rückverzauberung that both musically and visually evolved from GAS. The evening will also feature two local artists, Magamura and CT Kidobó, the former opening the event programme in the Concert Hall and the latter closing it in the Main Hall.
Wolfgang Voigt had already written his name into the lexicon of electronic music by co-founding the influential Kompakt label, but of course the major part of the oeuvre that he has created under the name GAS is even more important. He is credited with many great, seminal ambient minimal techno works – see and hear Zauberberg (1998), Königforst (1998) and Pop (2000). His Rückverzauberung project, developed over an extended period of time and released on disc in 2021 (Rückverzauberung Exhibition), is a further development of GAS. It has captivated audiences worldwide, far beyond the electronic music scene, with its unusual combination of reduced techno and abstract-amorphic classical sound structures. With Rückverzauberung, Wolfgang Voigt has taken the next logical step towards abstraction and atonal art music. The term Rückverzauberung ('Re-enchantment) is a term that perfectly describes Voigt's creative approach to deconstructing certain musical sound sources from their original form or meaning in order to place them in a new aesthetic context. This approach is also increasingly evident in Voigt's visual art.
The two local performers rounding off the evening are the Magamura duo and CT Kidobo. The music of the former – the Eril Fjord and Laurine Frost duo, also great producers in their own right, dubbed their duo Magamura – is characterised by their own definition of conservative musical rebellions, space-race inspired ‘kraut bubbles’, and a delicately balanced fusion of ethereal minimalism on a cinematic canvas. After a long break, their exclusive musical adventures will at last be seen and heard once more at the House of Music. CT Kidobo, named after the security staff at a notorious Budapest club, is the home-grown don of electro, whose emotionally rich performances have caught the attention of Helena Hauff, DJ Hell, Marcel Dettmann and Laurent Garnier. He has recently released an album on the French label Zone, a major name in the genre. He will close the evening with a special ambient set after Wolfgang Voigt's concert in the Entrance Hall.
