They wrote the song for us! – The Space of Mediums
The most comprehensive exhibition of Kádár-era pop history ever is going to be a major, experiential exhibition opening at the House of Music Hungary in November 2022. It will attempt to capture the various aspects of pop culture in the decades before the regime change from as many perspectives as possible. The more than 800-square-metre exhibition will not only focus on the most prominent artists, bands, emblematic hits and the most important pop historical events of that politically charged era, but will also present the fan subcultures associated with them; the media that were essential to the spread of popular music; the one-dimensional institutional and political power structures that fundamentally limited the scope of musicians; the most significant stages in the development of stage technology; and the relationship between popular music culture and the performing arts, which varied in intensity from era to era. In this series, the professional curator of the temporary exhibition, Béla Szilárd Jávorszky, talks to well-known musicians and music professionals.
