The strange name (Zán Coáskórd) conceals Sándor Czakó, one of the founders and former guitarist of the popular 1980s band Galloping Coroners (Vágtázó Halottkémek) (anagram), whose book from 2018, just under one hundred and forty pages, has now been published in the United States as well. As it was stated in the Hungarian publisher’s material: “Is our mind capable of expanding the finite dimensions offered by rational mapping based on everyday perception? Can the effective exploitation of the soul’s resources, which we can achieve by harmonizing the relationship between our brain activity and our mental processes, open up new perspectives? One of the founders of the cult underground band of the 1980s attempts to answer these questions by analyzing their special magic and uncovering the secret of their popularity. They achieved their success without advertising or marketing activity, regularly performing before several thousand spectators both at home and abroad. The secret lies in the band’s unique creative process, through which it evoked a special experience of spiritual identification, an illusion. The book offers a unique interpretation of the particular functioning possibilities of the human brain, which can be realized during creative processes that exert a cathartic effect.”
In the first part of the book launch, there will be a conversation with the author, Sándor Czakó, the book’s translator, Diana Senechal, and its graphic designer, Géza Barcsik, as well as Márk Szűcs. The discussion will be moderated by Kata Gyürke.
In the second half of the evening, a roundtable discussion will follow, also moderated by Kata Gyürke. The participants will be Sándor Czakó, András Stumpf, Juci Németh, and László Sallai, who will talk about the relationship between the underground and the mainstream, its past and present developments, as well as the passages and tensions between the two cultural spheres.
