Máté Mészáros: The mechanics of distance
Máté Mészáros: The mechanics of distance
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Máté Mészáros, with his choreography, examines the subtle nuances of space, investigating the distances between bodies and the tension inherent in spaces. He intricately blends harmonious and disharmonious systems to create a dynamic interplay. The space and relationships between performers and viewers are constantly changing, penetrating each other's personal space, creating a fusion between the dancers and the audience, placing everyone in direct confrontation.
The three performers from very different backgrounds (one trained in classical ballet, one with a folk dance background and one trained in specifically contemporary techniques) and the musician venture so close to each other's personal spaces that the audience is able to move away from their usual interpretative constraints. The bodies here put dance into a visual art perspective, not because of their performative capacity, but because of their plastic, constantly malleable materiality.
Space, movement and music form a fabric that fills the various spaces of the Hungarian Music Hall, allowing the audience to move freely and relate to it.
