KYŌSŌ Japan Music Festival

The KYŌSŌ – Japanese Music Festival concert offers a unique interdisciplinary experience at the House of Music Hungary. The encounter of Japanese tradition and contemporary musical thinking unfolds through the powerful sound of taiko drums, live calligraphy and the improvisational world of World Jazz Fusion. The word KYŌSŌ means “to resonate together”. This idea defines both the spirit of the concert and the long-term cultural vision of the KYŌSŌ festival platform.

In the first part of the concert, music and visual art evolve simultaneously: a live calligraphy performance by Japanese calligrapher Kazuki Mitsui takes shape to the rhythms of the taiko drum, followed by a taiko solo by Takuya. In the second part, entitled World Jazz Fusion, traditional rhythmic elements continue in a modern, improvisational musical form, where the sound of the taiko meets cello, piano and electronics, creating a new, boundary-crossing soundscape.
