µ-Ziq in the House of Music! Mike Paradinas, an iconic figure of electronic music, founder of the Planet Mu record label and one of the founding fathers of intelligent dance music (IDM), is coming to Budapest with an audiovisual show. At this multisensory club event, Mesterházy and Nemerov will get the synapses of the brain firing.
Paradinas, better known as µ-Ziq (pronounced: music) needs no special introduction. Considered one of the pioneers of IDM alongside Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, µ-Ziq released the album Expert Knob Twiddlers jointly with Aphex Twin as Mike and Rich in 1996. Since then, Paradinas has released close to 20 albums and collaborated with a wide array of artists, including Speedy J, Luke Vibert and Mrs Jynx. In 1998, he founded the Planet Mu record label, which has brought a parade of talents – including Jlin, Venetian Snares, Vladislav Delay and Gábor Lázár – to international attention. Mike is one of those rare musicians who is capable of renewing himself artistically throughout the decades (while also managing the label) yet also remaining instantly recognisable for his sensitive and melodic sound – his 2024 album Grush is a perfect example of this. µ-Ziq is a devoted protaganist of IDM and an innovator of the genre, with his work a must for any boundary-pushing (mind)dancer.
MESTERHÁZY
Mesterházy's record crates contain just about every single musical style, as does the DJ bag that he has been hauling to clubs, festivals and illegal raves for the best part of three decades. Mesterházy first gained nationwide fame in Hungary at the turn of the millennium thanks to his uniquely styled electronic mixes. He was a pioneer in Hungary's breakcore-jungle scene, his sets featuring a chemical mix of old school electro, acid and Detroit techno. He has embarked on countless projects, left them behind, reshaped them and used them to renew himself. These include the Syrup.hu record label and club night, though Mesterházy is also responsible for experimental and film score work under his pseudonym Mesterháza and is the improvisational acid-electro synthesiser artist MZ/Y, too. For the event, µ-Ziq is preparing a thematic selection that will encapsulate the history of the IDM genre.
NEMEROV
Nemerov focuses on layered, collage-like changing soundscapes and fragmented rhythmic solutions. Building on synthetic digital elements, his music features a collision of creative intentions, mechanical limitations, the error inherent in the machine and the perpetual presence of chance.
