Game of Droms

This programme is held in Hungarian.

Two legendary Drom groups on one stage! This has never happened before, anywhere. Both have been on stage for 25 years, both at home and around the world.

Last year, Romano Drom celebrated its 25th anniversary, and it is one of the best-known representatives of contemporary Roma culture in Hungary. Founded in 1999, the band has traveled the world from Cairo to New York, South Korea to London, Beijing to Oslo. They have toured in the Middle East and the Far East, with many successful overseas concert series behind them, and have played in almost every country in Europe. Their unique musical world has been a resounding success, making Romano Drom the most sought-after band that nurtures Roma culture while playing world music. The band's explicit goal is to bring and endear their special music to those who may not even know the Olah Roma music, dances, and culture. This concept can be tracked throughout their albums, blending original Olah Roma melodies with familiar elements from different musical cultures. Good vibes, dance, and a unique world music experience are guaranteed at the concert.

The Besh o droM band was formed suddenly, not preceded by market research, member recruitment, or joint learning. It was more of a response to a never-asked question. Seemingly mismatched people mixed seemingly incompatible musical styles with feverish eagerness and impatience. Two and a half decades have passed since then, yet the music has not become more predictable or unified, but has become a style and trademark. "They settled the road."

For twenty-five years, they have traveled the world, proving that there is a need for a band that cannot be fully categorized. Their name has come to mean an unbridled rhythm and melody melange, instruments handled with virtuosity, and a guaranteed cheerful, dancing audience. They are the beloved relaxants of folk dancers, the favorite folk music transmitters of intellectuals, the envied rockers of folk musicians, the most audacious processors of data providers. Their tour bus has visited every gas station in Europe, and they can recognize many international airports even with their eyes closed. They've played at the birth and burial of festivals. They held the torch for young bands and took over the baton from great old ones. They are slowly reaching the midpoint of their journey, their enthusiasm undiminished, able to concoct musical jokes at the drop of a hat, brazenly mixing musical cocktails, establishing seemingly incompatible flavors so that the unsuspecting taster wants more and more. Twenty-five years is not the world, but it feels good to know that a generation has grown up for whom world music did not exist without Besh o droM.

On this evening, the two bands will each give a full concert separately, but on this evening, they will also perform together on stage. The rest will be a surprise!
