Subcarpați (ROM) | Obadu
Subcarpați is one of the most popular contemporary Romanian bands, founded by Marius Alexe, also known as MC Bean, in 2010. It is a vibrant, constantly changing, large hip-hop-electronic-traditional music collective, which blends the old with the new, traditional folk music with the modern — continuously preserving and renewing. They pair folk instruments (kaval, flutes, cimbalom) with live drums and pop music instruments, and will perform with ten members at their first Budapest gig, presenting a dynamic and lively production.
Around MC Bean, musicians from various Romanian regions gather to play traditional instruments, but there are also creators from other artistic fields (such as visual artists), and there is a very free exchange of generations and genres within the collective. The essence is to inspire each other, drawing from each other's roots to create continuously evolving, beautiful genre fusions led by Bean, featuring hip-hop alongside downtempo, trip-hop, dubstep, and dancehall, as well as folk music from many Romanian regions. They have released 10 albums so far, and their live performances are visually appealing and energetic.
Obadu
In Obadu’s music, Hungarian and Romanian folk elements are presented through innovative electronic arrangements. His compositions place special emphasis on the kaval, the shepherd’s flute, and the transverse flute, which he blends with drum rhythms inspired by hip-hop and Latin American music. While his work spans multiple genres, his unique style remains recognizable in every track.
The concert is organized with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute.
