LISTEN. - A musical journey around the world, an interactive instrument demonstration and community music workshop will feature fun rhythm games in the Exhibition Hall, using percussion instruments and other traditional sound makers from around the world.

19:00-20:00 - Interactive instrument demonstration and drumming workshop

After viewing the Exhibition, participants will be free to choose from the extensive collection of instruments from the co-organiser Magbeat Studio Community Rhythm Workshop, including percussion instruments from West Africa, the Middle East, Central and South America, Europe, the Far East and Australia. After the rhythm games, the workshop will conclude with a guided community music-making and conducting session, in which the sounds of the members of the group, who will form an ad-hoc drum orchestra, and the ripples of their collective playing will be shaped into a spontaneous piece of music without words, using signs and body language.

Participation does not require any musical training, just a sense of fun, openness and listening to each other, which is always quickly developed by the collective beat of the drums. In addition to providing an insight into the world of folk percussion, the programme is a playful way to develop attunement and focus, the ability to direct attention to the "here and now".

The ticket price includes admission to the exhibition and participation in the drum circle. Please arrive by 17:00 if you wish to view the exhibition before the workshop.

The programme is hosted by Gábor Zsarnai and Lara Tompa, founders of Magbeat Studio. Both have been working with percussion instruments for many years and are working to bring the community-building power of drumming and the flow experience of improvisational process music born in the moment to as many people as possible, beginners and advanced alike.
