Whether we are talking about the heart-warming tunes of stringed gypsy bands or the moving melodies of barroom pianists, music has always found its way into the restaurants, pubs and cafés of Hungarian towns. Once a month, the Musicians Café series, which began in the House of Music Hungary café, transports its audiences into the world of hospitality musicians. During our Café evenings, a restaurant atmosphere reminiscent of the Gyula Krúdy era coffee houses will come to life with Pál Jávor, Antal Páger, the celebrities who partied with the bands, not to mention decadent gentry. The aim of the series is to draw attention to one of the most important parts of Hungarian heritage, the gypsy music of the cafés, which sadly is increasingly neglected nowadays. On this occasion, an exemplary evening of barroom pianists’ café music will be provided by György Villás.
