The Royal Opera: Madama Butterfly
The Royal Opera House's production of Puccini's Madame Butterfly will be broadcast live from London via satellite to audiences at the House of Music Hungary. Puccini's poignant tragedy tells the story of a young geisha who falls in love with an American naval officer. The opera by Giacomo Puccini is a superb production by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, with Asmik Grigorian as Cio-Cio-San and Kevin John Edusei conducting. The London performance of the work, which will run for over three hours, will be screened at the same time at the House of Music.
When the young geisha Cio-Cio-San marries US naval officer Pinkerton, she thinks she is entering into a real, lifelong marriage. Abandoning her religion and her community, she learns too late that for Pinkerton their marriage is an illusion - with tragic consequences. Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier's superb production stars Asmik Grigorian as Cio-Cio-San and is conducted by Kevin John Edusei.
