A Hungarian musician in Hollywood – Jenő Zádor
Yet another Hungarian in the history of Hollywood filmmaking: Jenő Zádor. In his hometown, Bátaszék, he has a cult status. It is hard to forget him in Hollywood as well, as he orchestrated and partially composed the music for over a hundred films. He was a close collaborator of Miklós Rózsa, the Oscar-winning composer of Ben Hur – he orchestrated the music for the famous movie. He lived through the 20th century. Eventually, his intellectual legacy returned home. We too welcome him with open arms at the House of Music. We commemorate him through his diverse chamber works, songs, with excellent performers – singer Katalin Károlyi, pianist Klára Würtz, violinist Ádám Banda, and cellists Pál Banda and Máté Tomasz – and bring his figure to life with film excerpts and conversations; of the creator, who was born as Eugen Zuker in Bátaszék (1894), became Jenő Zádor in Budapest (1919), and entered American music history as Eugene Zádor from 1939 onwards.
