Hungarian Albummm! #13 - Hűség: Ákos

This programme is held in Hungarian.

In the Magyar Albummm! series we listen to records in the presence of the author or performer, recalling their own experiences, in the library of the House of Hungarian Music, from whose ever-expanding record collection we selected the albums, and which thus becomes a playhouse for a prominent domestic music record on the occasions of the series. This time Ákos's 2000 album Hűség is put on the turntable, and the host Horváth Gergely's guest will be the main figure, Ákos.

"I seek my way, sometimes I seek trouble, I seek the one who wanted me, to whom the sky sent me, whom heaven intended for me"

Having left its youthful nineties behind, Ikon unexpectedly wrote its search-for-a-path album in "angel-language", an album that brought a turning point to the domestic mainstream pop music scene. Hűség showed that a confessional, self-reflective, mirror-facing male voice can also be a hit format. At once a summary and a step forward, it became a guiding voice for several generations over the quarter-century following its release.

Albummm: ÁKOS: HŰSÉG (2000)
Guest: Kovács Ákos
Host: Horváth Gergely

If we still remember how we listened to music when Little Richard sang on shiny black records, then we also know what record playing gave to music fans: time dedicated to listening to music, deep attention, lyrics to browse and memorable covers. And even more than that, because the medium itself influenced songwriting; already the A and B side markings of singles raised the question of the priority and order of songs, which led to the birth and application of the musical or conceptual idea organizing the whole album. A record is a handheld object that strongly shapes the personal relationship with the writers and performers as well. We revive the ritual of record listening by jointly listening to albums by domestic performers that in some way have excitingly contributed to the history of Hungarian popular music.

The House of Music, Hungary is launching a new, entertaining series: music quizzes in the Pop Culture Club Library! Do your friends no longer even have to open Shazam, they immediately know just to ask you? Is Spotify one of your favourite apps? Is your Facebook wall regularly filled with fun music facts? Do you maintain carefully curated playlists? Have you ever played a newly discovered song to your puzzled friends and then had to explain, with considerable effort, what makes it such great music? If you recognise yourself in the above, then this might not be such a big secret for you, but you are a die-hard music fan! Just like us. Just for you and music gurus like ourselves, we have created the Dammit, I Knew That! quiz series, held in the Pop Culture Club Library of the House of Music, Hungary.
