The deservedly popular Talamba Percussion Ensemble and flutist Eszter Horgas, who have been collaborating for a long time, are this time joined by pianist Klára Würtz, who lives in the Netherlands. Their concert offers a kind of journey into the world of French Romanticism and Impressionism, featuring melodies by Debussy, Ravel, Saint-Saëns and other contemporary French composers, full of countless ideas and special musical solutions, at times departing from the original conception, re-orchestrated and spiced up “Talamba-style”. The passionate, colorful harmony of flute, piano and more than a hundred percussion instruments promises a unique and virtuosic evening worthy of the festive season.
Formed in 1999 and based in Gödöllő, the members of the Talamba Percussion Ensemble – Tamás V. Nagy, László Grünvald, Miklós Szitha and Levente Zombor – met and became friends as students at the Liszt Academy of Music. Their main goal is to present a wide repertoire of musical genres and to “reconcile” these genres with one another – at their concerts one can encounter arrangements of Bach’s fugues or Pictures at an Exhibition just as much as reimagined pop songs, jazz standards, folk songs, African tribal rhythms, or fast-paced Balkan tunes. They are a genuine crossover ensemble, entertaining audiences at home and abroad alike with truly twenty-first-century music.
Eszter Horgas is a flutist awarded the Artisjus Prize and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, and an honorary citizen of Budapest. At the Liszt Academy of Music, her chamber music teachers were György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados. She has been performing in concert since the age of twenty and is also a teacher at the Leó Weiner Catholic Music School. Over the course of her career so far, she has released thirty albums, six live concert broadcasts, three DVDs and one book of her own. Among these, her album made in collaboration with guitar virtuoso Al Di Meola stands out, which became a platinum record in two weeks. She regularly performs as a chamber musician and soloist with the participation of the most renowned international artists and orchestras.
As winner of the Ettore Pozzoli Piano Competition in Milan and a finalist of the Dublin International Piano Competition, Klára Würtz soon found her place on the world’s stages, winning the attention and affection of audiences worldwide with her compelling playing. From 1982, she continued her studies at the Liszt Academy of Music under the guidance of Pál Kadosa, Zoltán Kocsis, Ferenc Rados and György Kurtág, obtaining her artist’s and teaching diploma with distinction in 1989. She has lived in Amsterdam since 1990, is a piano and chamber music teacher at the Utrecht Conservatory of Music, and since 2022 also teaches at her former alma mater. She has given hundreds of concerts in the United States and in many countries across Europe and Asia, and she also has an extensive discography: she has made nearly forty recordings for the Dutch labels Brilliant Classics and Piano Classics.
