This programme is held in Hungarian.

In this tradition-preserving Advent program, the Kákics Band aims to show, here in the capital as well, how the Bethlehem play used to take place in the villages in earlier times. To this end, they have strung together the songs from Nativity and shepherd plays from different Hungarian regions along the thread of a single story.
The storyteller – recalling his childhood – remembers that December day when his grandfather brought down from the attic a dusty, wooden puppet-show Nativity scene. After cleaning it, he took his grandchild into his lap and, by the fire crackling in the stove, began to tell a story. Through his words, the memory of the long-ago Christmas custom comes alive for the little boy, as the shepherds in their sheepskin coats and cloaks bring the jingling Nativity scene.

The songs are embedded in this story, the backbone of which is formed by a cradle game from Székesfehérvár. For accompaniment they chose instruments that were very popular in peasant music, including the leather bagpipe, the Moldavian koboz, various flutes, and the hurdy-gurdy, with which they evoke the sounds of the different regions. This wonderful musical Christmas greeting will then, hopefully, conclude with singing – all together.
