The House of Music and the St. Stephen King Secondary School of Music have long had a fruitful relationship: the institution’s students have performed here on numerous occasions (one only has to think of their outdoor wind orchestra concerts held every summer), which is why it will be a special occasion when, with Christmas approaching, they visit us with an intimate, atmospheric Advent concert. The program of the concert – short pieces for string orchestra as well as larger-scale vocal works – will, in keeping with the atmosphere of the festive season, help foster contemplation. The St. Stephen Conservatory String Orchestra, as well as the Women’s, Men’s and Mixed Choirs, will be conducted by Éva Soltész, Krisztián Safarek and Gábor Horváth.
The aim of the choral work at the secondary vocational school is for students to have a broad musical outlook, to be well-versed in all styles, to gain the highest possible level of performance experience, and at the same time to form a cohesive community; the Women’s Choir and Men’s Choir therefore often sing together at various events, as well as in performances of oratorios. The school’s string orchestra is likewise an important workshop for professional musician training: during their studies, its members become acquainted with and perform the finest works of the Baroque and Classical repertoire at concerts in Hungary (and occasionally abroad as well). In addition to high-quality sound, the leaders of the ensembles consider good team spirit important, as well as ensuring that the students participate in making music together with enthusiasm and joy, since they believe this provides the proper foundation for performances of a high artistic standard.
