The Anniversary 33 — a birthday Junkies concert at the House of Music Hungary! The band, whose roots are in Zugló, is turning 33 and coming home: just a few hundred meters from their original rehearsal space and a stone’s throw from their former club, the Junkies PeCsa beer garden, they will celebrate this special anniversary in the grand hall of the House of Music Hungary. For this one-off occasion, the band is preparing special musical arrangements that make the most of the venue’s features and are in keeping with its spirit.
Since forming in 1994, Junkies have come a long way and have remained active for virtually the entire time. Following their quick success on Budapest’s club scene, the band released their first album in December 1995, which also brought them nationwide recognition. The real breakthrough, however, had to wait until Nihil, released in the summer of 1997 and already issued by multinational label Warner Records. The three-month tour that followed the album’s release, as guests of Tankcsapda, brought the band nationwide popularity. Fourteen studio albums, headline shows at the Petőfi Hall, the Sziget Main Stage, a gold record, sold-out shows at Barba Negra, and countless other concerts mark the path the band has traveled over the past 32 years.
The song Nincs Pardon spent two weeks at the top of Petőfi Radio’s charts as its most-played song. In 2013, the band received a Fonogram Award after their album was named Rock Album of the Year. Throughout their career, Junkies have also played abroad several times: beyond neighboring countries, they have performed in England, Ireland, France (three times), Germany, and even faraway South Korea (twice). In April 2019, the band celebrated its 25th anniversary with a compilation album featuring 13 rerecorded old songs alongside six new ones. The release, Negyedszázad kockázat és mellékhatás, went gold by that summer. In October 2019, the band performed twice in the USA: alongside their concert in San Francisco, they played in Hollywood at the legendary Whiskey a Go Go club, where bands such as the Doors, Guns N' Roses, and Oasis had performed before them. Their album Káros az egészségre , released in the fall of 2020, spent two weeks at the top of MAHASZ’s Top 40 sales chart. In February 2023, Junkies celebrated their 1,500th concert to great success. In the live final of A Dal 2024, the band performed their song Királyi többes, accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
