Waiting for the Messiah – Baroque Christmas with Aura Musicale

The millennia-old experience of humanity is the expectation of the Messiah. Will he come? Has he come? Will he come again? These questions have inspired many a gem of European literature from the Middle Ages to the present day; from these, and from baroque chamber music pieces that rhyme with them, we can hear a selection as Christmas approaches at the concert of the early music ensemble Aura Musicale. In their performance, works by the great composers of the 17th–18th centuries (Corelli, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel and their contemporaries) will be played on period instruments, while quotations from the Old and New Testaments, as well as poems, will be interpreted by Károly Juhász, an artist of the Court Chamber Theatre of Magyarkanizsa. The image of a soul torn between doubt, faith, denial and hope is evoked by musical pieces that are sometimes dramatic, sometimes lyrical, which together with the literary works, mutually enhancing each other’s expressive power, address the listener and jointly heighten the possibility of personal emotional involvement.
Aura Musicale was founded in 1995 by young baroque instrumental musicians; their artistic director is Balázs Máté, a baroque cellist of international renown. The ensemble is capable of presenting productions of the most varied kinds, from solo performances to medium-sized symphony orchestras. They have built up an extremely wide repertoire, ranging from early Baroque to early Romanticism, and in addition to well-known musical works it also contains numerous rarities; the number of the latter is constantly growing thanks to the tireless research work of the members, thus contributing to the rediscovery of many significant compositions. They regularly give highly successful concerts at prestigious international festivals, and to date ten of their recordings have been released, all of which have achieved considerable critical and popular success.
