John Davies has been a (hyper)active part of the Welsh indie scene for well over a quarter of a century. He initially played alternative/psychedelic rock in his band JT Mouse, which later evolved into John MOuse, the band that has accompanied him throughout his career. More precisely, it started out as a band, but later he also released solo albums under that name, which veered mostly towards electronic synth-pop and featured collaborations with renowned musicians such as Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) and Miki Berényi (Lush), who is of Japanese-Hungarian descent.

One thing is common to his compositions: his lyrics are highly detailed, often describing everyday situations or even childhood memories with pinpoint accuracy, so storytelling is already present in his songs. But this evening, we’ll find out even more about him—for example, he’ll surely recall how he experienced that surreal Budapest concert seven years ago, which inspired him to write the unofficial anthem of the 2020 European Football Championship, and whose legend is still talked about in Wales to this day!

Welsh Language Music Day (Dydd Miwsig Cymru) takes place every February, and this is one of the things that brings the Hang/ember series its exclusive international act on this occasion.
