16 Horsepower (USA)
Szervezés:
The band 16 Horsepower was built around the trio of David Eugene Edwards, Jean-Yves Tola and Pascal Humbert and became a guiding light for American folk musicians in the ’90s with its ominous gothic country music, but from 2005 onward, the band members decided to go their separate ways. Now, however, their legacy lives on: 16 Horsepower reunited in 2026, and on April 25 they’ll bring their songs to the House of Music Hungary as well—following David Eugene Edwards’s sold-out solo concert in 2024.
16 Horsepower fundamentally changed the alternative musical landscape rooted in American folk, drawing on the raw intensity and sound of Appalachian folk, bluegrass, gospel and country. The band used traditional instruments—including banjo, Chemnitzer concertina, hurdy-gurdy, lap steel and double bass—and filtered their sounds through a modern, rock-oriented sensibility. The band was a pioneer of a genre-defying sound also known as gothic country or gothic Americana, and played an important role in the development of “The Denver Sound” amid Denver’s thriving alternative scene of the 1990s.
At the heart of the band were David Eugene Edwards, Jean-Yves Tola and Pascal Humbert; a constantly changing circle of collaborators and a restless desire to push boundaries shaped their music. Their songs sometimes evoked the mood of fire-and-brimstone sermons, and at other times took the form of ghostly ballads or reimagined folk standards. The body of work left by 16 Horsepower combines a dark, gothic country atmosphere with an unmistakably American sound. It’s no wonder the band’s unique style has always been so popular in Europe; after they disbanded in 2005, the members also made frequent visits to the continent with their solo projects. But now their legacy lives on: the original trio reunited in 2026, for the first time since November 22, 2005, and announced a European tour that will bring them to the House of Music Hungary on April 25, 2027.
Tickets for the concert go on sale October 12 at 10 a.m. and will be available at www.livenation.hu and www.funcode.hu.
