Laci Gáspár - BaSSamurai Album Release Concert
Pop
Szervezés:
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Gáspár Laci takes center stage this time not as a singer, but as a bass guitarist and composer. His first instrumental, bass guitar-focused album, BaSSamurai, consists of his own compositions: some are musical ideas conceived nearly twenty years ago, while others are entirely new. Funk, jazz-funk, fusion, groove, improvisation and bass guitar solos come together at the live concert, where Zolbert and Bari Laci will also take the stage as guests. A personal musical world in which, this time, it is not primarily Gáspár Laci’s voice but the bass guitar that tells the story.
BaSSamurai
For more than two decades, audiences have known Gáspár Laci primarily as a singer, while the bass guitar has been a defining part of his life since the beginning of his musical career. But on his first instrumental, bass guitar-focused album, BaSSamurai, the familiar roles are reversed: this time, it is not the singing voice but the bass guitar that takes center stage.
BaSSamurai brings to life a personal musical world long in the making. Funk, jazz-funk and fusion meet powerful grooves, improvisation, slap technique, melodic bass playing and bass guitar solos. Four-, five- and six-string bass guitars take turns, and the instrument often steps beyond its traditional role as an accompaniment: it leads melodies, responds, improvises and tells a story.
Original compositions
Every track on the album was written by Gáspár Laci. Some of the compositions began as ideas nearly twenty years ago and have only now taken their final form, while others are entirely new. What they have in common is that they all come from the same personal musical world.
A return to his roots
The project is also a return to Gáspár Laci’s musical roots: to the time when, at the start of his career, he took his bass guitar almost everywhere and spent every spare moment practicing. After more than twenty years as a singer, with albums, hits, concerts and television appearances behind him, he has now made an album for the first time that puts Gáspár Laci the bass guitarist, composer and instrumental performer entirely in the foreground. One of the album’s distinctive features is that Gáspár Laci—known to the general public primarily as a singer—does not sing songs on this album. His voice appears, at most, as an instrument, in the form of scat. BaSSamurai is deliberately built around the bass guitar and instrumental music: here, it is first and foremost the bass guitar that speaks.
The concert
At the House of Music Hungary, the album’s songs will be performed with a live band, leaving room for improvisation, groove and musical dialogue between the players. Funky energy, lyrical moments and virtuosic instrumental passages take turns. The concert is not a note-for-note reproduction of the album: the songs of BaSSamurai continue to evolve on stage.
Guest artists
Zolbert – saxophone
A guest performer on the composition Wine & Romance. The song’s defining musical idea is the meeting of the fretless bass guitar and saxophone, engaging in a dialogue of call and response.
Bari Laci
A guest performer on the composition You're My Friend. Here, the human voice also joins the production as an instrument, as part of the instrumental music.
