Boundless Rhythm is the title of our new series in which we want to show how diverse the world of drums and percussion is, and how it is possible to create fully-fledged music using only these instruments. At the fourth event of the Boundless Rhythm series, the Israeli artist Ben Aylon will present a truly captivating production.

Ben Aylon is a percussion virtuoso and producer known for his innovative approach to Senegalese drumming. Over the past fifteen years, under the mentorship of legendary drummers Doudou Ndiaye Rose and Aly Ndiaye Rose, he has developed a unique style that elevates traditional Senegalese drum music to a new level with modern performance techniques.

In his solo production titled One Man Tribe, he condenses the elemental power of large Senegalese drum ensembles into an extremely intense solo performance using ten percussion instruments, complemented by his own compositions played on the traditional Senegalese string instrument, the xalam.

As a sought-after producer, his premium-quality, creative percussion sample libraries are available on leading music industry platforms such as Splice, Tracklib and LANDR, among others. Through his documentation work in Senegal and other regions, he has made rare recordings of master drummers and contemporary forms of traditional ceremonies. In this way, through his personal journey, he is continuously building a comprehensive archive showcasing the region’s rich musical heritage.

At the heart of Ben’s mission is the aim of bringing people of different cultures and religions closer together through rhythm, prayer and collaboration.

Ben Aylon will hold a Senegalese percussion workshop the day before the concert, you can register for it here.

The concert is organized with the collaboration of the Embassy of Israel in Hungary, The MERKAZ - Hebrew and Israeli Cultural Center and the Jewish Agency for Israel.

The Israeli musician introduces the event as follows: “Participants can bring any kind of drum; no specific type is necessary. I will teach basic Senegalese rhythms, which we will then all be able to play together.”
