Five decades of Hungarian folk music, legendary melodies and a special jubilee encounter: at Téka Ensemble’s concert, the most memorable pieces of the past 50 years will be performed, including old audience favourites as well as more recent Téka compositions.
Formed in 1976, the ensemble is one of the defining formations of the dance-house movement. Its members learned not only the melodies and traditional playing style from village master musicians, but also that community-minded outlook in which a given word, honour and respect for tradition are fundamental values. Their music is therefore not merely a performance, but a living connection between past and present.
Over the course of its career, Téka has recorded its own programmes and its masters’ repertoire on 27 albums, while through dance houses, clubs, school programmes and the legendary Téka Folk Art Camp it has won generations over to Hungarian folk music. With their concerts they have toured almost all of Europe, and have carried Hungarian musical tradition from Mexico to Japan and all the way to Australia.
At the jubilee evening, alongside Máté Kalász, Beatrix Ráczkyné Tárnoki, Tamás Kalász and György Lányi, László Porteleki will join the ensemble on violin and Kálmán Balogh on cimbalom.
This evening will be at once a retrospective, a celebration and living dance-house energy: fifty years of melodies condensed into a single concert, for all who love authentic, sweeping and community-building folk music.
