Hungarian Albummm! #12 - Szeptember Volt: Korda György and Balázs Klári

This programme is held in Hungarian.

In the Magyar Albummm! series we listen to records in the presence of the composer or performer, recalling their own experiences, in the library of the House of Music, from whose ever-growing record collection we selected the albums, and which on the occasions of the series thus becomes a playhouse for a domestic, loud-sounding music album. This time Korda György’s It Was September, the 1981 album, is put on the turntable — yes, the song "Reptér" originally appeared on this — and the host Horváth Gergely’s guests will be the main figure, Korda György, and Balázs Klári, who already appears on this album.

"Beautiful Bernadett, here is the hour, let it be ours, let's make it so"

The legend of the popular-song singer who outlived every fashion, a source of memes, the smiling antithesis of the poker face, who always played with open cards in music: for him heart-to-heart is trumps. The grand master of emotional, white-jacketed melancholy, in the early eighties with one album crossed the kitsch boundary at supersonic speed, revealing that the world of bygone cafés and bars would remain forever an iconic realm of pop culture. It Was September has aged well; it contains "Reptér", and moreover "You Won't Bring Any More Roses" nevertheless became the flourishing first stem from the bouquet of songs shared with Balázs Klári...

If we still remember how we listened to music when Little Richard sang on shiny black records, then we also know what record playing gave to music lovers: time dedicated to listening to music, deep attention, lyrics to browse and memorable covers. And even more, because the medium itself influenced songwriting; already the A and B side labels of singles raised the question of the priority and order of songs, which brought about the emergence and application of the musical or conceptual idea that organizes the whole album. A record is a tangible object that strongly shapes the personal relationship with the authors and performers as well. We revive the ritual of record listening by jointly listening to albums by domestic performers that in some way contributed excitingly to the history of Hungarian popular music.

Those of us who still remember how we used to listen to music back when Little Richard sang from shiny black vinyl discs also know what playing records gave music fans: time dedicated to listening to the music with deep absorption, printed lyrics to browse and memorable album covers. And there was even more, because the medium itself influenced the songwriting: the very designation of sides A and B of singles raised the question of the priority and order of the songs, which brought with it the genesis and application of the musical or ideological concept that served as the organising principle behind the entire album.
