Pelikan Blue (2024)

This programme is held in Hungarian.

After the fresh Anglo-Saxon music films of spring 2025 and the three full-length documentaries of autumn 2025, Hungarians will once again take center stage in the Rock Movie Club's spring 2026 lineup. To kick things off, there will be an animated film for adults based on real events (Kék Pelikan). In March, we will screen Ott torony (a portrait film about Mihály Víg), a defining figure of the Hungarian underground scene in the early 1980s, a laid-back, funny character who is aware of his own limitations, does not deny the dark side of his personality, but is able to look at his fate with satisfaction. In April, we will follow the first ten years of the Bagossy Brothers Company, which uniquely combines elements of pop, rock, and folk. The four-part miniseries will conclude with Balaton Method, an audiovisual "project" that was presented with great success ten years ago. After the screenings, Béla Szilárd Jávorszky, a professional staff member of the Pop Culture Club Library, will talk with the directors of the films.

Contemporary Hungarian film and (rock) music have been in contact practically since the late 1960s. Sometimes more intensively, sometimes more loosely, but they are essentially inseparable.  Before the screenings, Béla Szilárd Jávorszky will talk briefly about the genesis and pop-historical significance of these works, followed by a discussion with a guest film aesthetics expert on the relevant domestic and international trends.
