Mohamad Zatari (SY), Ferenc Ségercz, Lehel Vitályos

A joint project from Ferenc Ségercz, Mohamad Zatari and Lehel Vitályos, born of their tireless search for common rhythms and dialogues in traditional repertoires from different regions of the world, kicked off in a workshop in a small village in Transylvania. The three musicians use deep-rooted timbres and improvisational concepts to build coherent new, organic sound textures.

Ferenc Ségercz is a musician and music folklore collector, performer and instrument maker whose traditional wind instruments (flute, kaval, telenka [overtone flute]) hail from Moldova, Gyimeș and other Transylvanian regions. He is a folklore researcher, composer of numerous folk music arrangements, teacher of traditional music, founder and leader of several ensembles including some with professional musicians, while others were made up of amateurs or students. Ferenc mostly performs tunes based on his own ideas, dressing traditional songs in new clothes, combining the vein of traditional musical improvisation in harmonies borrowed from the vocabulary of jazz.

Mohamad Zatari is a composer and oud player from Aleppo, Syria, currently living in Bucharest. He has studied traditional and regional music with Tarek Al-Sayed and holds a degree in classical composition from the National Music University of Bucharest (2021). His compositions have been used in short films and educational materials. He has performed in various ensembles and groups in countries such as Syria, Romania, Hungary, Germany, Italy and Austria.

Lehel Vitályos is a jazz musician, double bass player and tireless traveller in the world of jazz. Initially a student of guitar, he turned his attention to bass guitar, to which he dedicated more than 20 years of study. In 2010 he began to explore the world of the double bass, and since then he admits he has not been able to tear himself away from it. He currently plays both instruments, alternating between them depending on the projects he is involved in. Lehel covers a wide range of musical styles and has a very varied repertoire. He has taken part in jazz and improvisational music courses, played in several jazz, rock, folk and electronic music bands, sings in several projects with Luiza Zan, the singer Nicolas Simion, Jazzpar Trio, sZempöl, etc.
