ArtMenők & HODWORKS: Idol
ArtMenők & HODWORKS: Idol
This program is held in Hungarian.
A joint production between ArtMenők and HODWORKS, Idol creates a space where normatively able-bodied and disabled performers can perform together on stage, creating a world they want to live in their everyday, personal spaces. The two companies suggest that the field of contemporary performing arts may be the most appropriate starting point for the pervasive social change that has long been called for. This kind of rethinking and overhauling of the often strict rules of domestic contemporary dance is very timely.
Adrienn Beaver has been working with ArtMenők since the autumn of 2022, in the form of in-depth rehearsal research. The focus of the sessions is to allow young people with different disabilities and non-normative bodies to explore, accompanied by HODWORKS dancers, previously unknown terrain in a safe situation where they can express themselves through their own choices.
The House of Music will not only be the venue, but also an active part of the performance: Idol will not take place on one stage, but in parallel etudes in several venues. The audience is free to move around the space, to choose where, what and for how long they watch, making the performance a constantly evolving, personal experience.
