This programme is held in Hungarian.
In 2022, a regular monthly program was launched at the MZH Multimedia Library and Club under the title Rock and Roll Free University. The Rock and Roll Free University presents the most important processes and performers in international pop history. For rock and roll is, somewhat simplified, the result of a peculiar cultural-historical union: when the musical tradition of the black slaves brought from Africa (blues) and that of the white settlers who emigrated from Europe (country) met and continuously blended with each other on a third continent, in America. Moreover, all this took place in a radically transforming society following technical development and the associated industrialization and urbanization. In the tenth season of this series (autumn 2026), the subject will be glam rock springing up in the United Kingdom (David Bowie, Queen, Slade, Roxy Music) and its American representatives (Alice Cooper, Kiss).
After David Bowie comes one of the most popular British pop music trends of the first half of the seventies, perhaps the most important band of glam rock, Queen, led by the tragically fated Freddie Mercury, considered one of the best voices in rock history. Queen possessed enough talent and creativity not only to be a sensation for a few years, but to become one of the defining formations of British mainstream rock music in the seventies and eighties. For this, of course, it was necessary for Mercury and his bandmates to constantly adapt to changing fashion waves, but they always managed to do so in a way that they did not lose their own voice and identity. It is no wonder that from George Michael to Metallica, from Dr. Dre to Nirvana, from Robbie Williams to the Smashing Pumpkins, numerous later global greats have cited Queen as one of their main sources of inspiration.
