Six Grylluses, one book, many family stories. In the volume published by Corvina in 2025, the Gryllus family tells what has happened to them over the past century – about art, family, everyday life, and success. Now, out of these six Grylluses, five will be our guests at the House of Hungarian Music: Dániel, Vilmos, Samu, Ábris, and Dorka Gryllus, who, on the occasion of the book about them, will let us in a little on what family tradition means to them. During the roughly seventy-minute musical program they will sing and tell stories, Dorka will also read from the book, then Mariann Bencze, the founder of KultPult, will talk with them about what the family’s story, creation, theater, fine arts, and music mean to them, and also about everything that constitutes their #athomeathome – separately and together.
– Did you know that Vilmos was not admitted to the music class in first grade, even though he had already been playing the cello at six?
– Or that Samu has composed music for more than forty theater and film productions, and some of his songs have been performed at Carnegie Hall?
– And that there was an Uncle Pali in the family, who was the tutor of Otto von Habsburg and lived in Madeira among the Habsburgs?
The Grylluses stepped onto the stage of life from a home where there were three piano stools, and when the moment called for it, the family sang chorales together.
This #athomeathome occasion is an evening beyond Kaláka, Maszkabál, and The School of Senses: reading, conversation, music, and play – about family, culture, traditions, the present, and the future.
