The strange name (Zán Coáskórd) conceals Sándor Czakó, one of the founders and former guitarist of the popular 1980s band Galloping Coroners (Vágtázó Halottkémek) (anagram), whose 2018 book of just under 140 pages has now been published in the United States as well. As it could be read in the Hungarian publisher’s material: “Is our mind capable of expanding the finite dimensions offered by rational mapping based on everyday perception? Can the effective exploitation of the soul’s resources—achievable through harmonizing the relationship between our brain activity and our mental processes—open up new perspectives? One of the founders of the cult underground band of the 80s attempts to answer these questions by analyzing their special magic and uncovering the secret of their popularity. They achieved their success without advertising or marketing activities, regularly performing before several thousand spectators both at home and abroad. The secret lies in the band’s unique creative process, through which it evoked a special experience of psychic identification, an illusion. The book offers a unique interpretation of the particular operational possibilities of the human brain, which can be realized in creative processes exerting a cathartic effect.”
In the first part of the book launch there will be a discussion with the book’s author, Sándor Czakó, the volume’s translator, Diana Senechal, and its graphic designer, Géza Bacsik. The discussion will be moderated by Béla Jávorszky.
The second half of the evening will feature a roundtable discussion moderated by Béla Jávorszky. The participants will be Sándor Czakó, András Stumpf and László Sallai, who will talk about the relationship between the underground and the mainstream, its past and current developments, as well as the transitions and tensions between the two cultural spheres.
