Barnaby Brown (SCO): 40 Millenia of Piping
Barnaby Brown – experimental archaeologist, ethnomusicologist, musician, and professor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland – brings to the House of Music Hungary one of the most exciting topics in music history: the revival of instrumental music from ages past, accompanied by an intriguing English-language narration from this unconventional musician-scholar. In this concert, Barnaby Brown will perform reconstructions of wind instruments from history – Stone Age, Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Celtic whistles. These 'organs' of the ancient world accompanied religious rituals, theatrical performances, and the voices of warrior kings, conveying harmony and superhuman majesty through the music played on them. Brown's interpretation of the finds and music reconstruction were inspired by his adventures in the Hebrides, Wales, Sardinia, Hindustan and Southeast Asia, amongst other places.
