Musicians’ Café: Horváth Gyula & His Band
Musicians’ Café: Horváth Gyula & His Band
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Whether it's about the thrilling melodies of string gypsy orchestras or the moving tunes of bar pianists, the music always filled the restaurants, pubs, and cafes of Hungarian cities. The Musician's Café series, which commenced at the café of the House of Music, Hungary, guides the audience into the world of hospitality musicians once a month. During our café nights, the atmosphere of Gyula Krúdy's era eateries comes alive, the age of celebrities like Pál Jávor, Antal Páger who reveled with the band, or the era of decadent gentry. The series aims to draw attention to one of our most important Hungaricums, the café gypsy music, which unfortunately is increasingly being relegated to the background today.
This time, Gyula Horváth and his band's evening provides an example of café musicianship. We welcome our guests with a welcome drink, and in keeping with the spirit of the Musician's Café, there is an opportunity for dining and consuming drinks at the concert venue.
The aim of the series is to draw attention to one of the most important parts of Hungarian heritage, the Roma music of the cafés, which sadly is increasingly neglected nowadays.
