Electro Chaabi (2013)
Electro Chaabi (2013)
Fanni Zahár’s Curation Weekend kicks off with a free film screening that will present a work that has some connections to the theme of the weekend and which explores the music of North Africa. Directed by Hind Meddeb, this 2013 music documentary showcases the underground scene in the suburbs of Cairo and electro chaabi, a popular form of local music. This raw and dirty music played at street parties and weddings was inspired by the spirit of punk and mixes a hip-hop attitude with local traditions and electronic beats. In the midst of corruption and social segregation, the young people in the Cairo slums dance the night away to electro chaabi.
From time to time, the House of Music shares the curatorial duties with an artist, and the host of the next such Curatorial Weekend is Fanni Zahár, flautist, saxophonist, producer and DJ (Zakhorov), a well-known musician of her age, a member and contributor to countless formations both in Hungary and abroad. This time, the artist, who is at home in a wide range of genres, put together two events, a double performance evening and a concert with many actors on consecutive days during his Curatorial Weekend – during the winter-spring round.
