“Repetitive”- Bartók Music School Ensemble

This program is held in Hungarian.

The efforts in the area of repetitive music that emerged in America in the second half of the 1960s constituted a reinterpretation of the concept of contemporary music. This movement, which also drew inspiration from pop music, established a new perspective on music performance, offering concertgoers a liberating, communal experience. This concert, entitled ‘Repetitive’, will feature compositions by the American composers who defined the style, as well as by László Melis, a composer/performer member of the iconic 1980s-era Hungarian association known as the 180 Group. The Bartók Conservatory – New Music event is in its 12th year at the preparatory school for the Liszt Academy.

The programme is not an official part of the curriculum. Instead, it has the aim of expanding the musical range of the students and equipping them with tools of expression for interpreting the music of today. The organisers believe it is vital to involve the students as much as possible in diverse activities. The students then perform their work in concert during a project day in spring. The young musicians spend months preparing for these events – most of which deal with more relaxed themes.
