Iconic Songs of Legendary Cartoons
This program will be held in Hungarian.
We see the shadow of a sneaky character approaching on tiptoe (meanwhile we hear short, plucked string sounds). The shadow grows larger, the "hunter" approaches its prey (ominously murmuring low strings sound). Only a few centimeters separate him from his unsuspecting victim (brass enter gradually growing louder, holding a dissonant chord). Then suddenly a built-in ironing board hits him on the back of the neck (kettledrum + cymbal) and while imaginary birds appear around his head (piccolo trills), he collapses unconscious (descending melody on trombone). The saved victim laughs, slapping his knee (clarinet).
Whether it's about a duck with anger management problems, a cat-and-mouse duo perpetually pestering each other with household solutions, or even a societally engaged, institutionalized cat-and-mouse game, or perhaps a self-defined onion-like, occasionally proudly disgusting swamp-dwelling green monster, it can be said that music plays a huge role in telling all of their stories. Furthermore, beyond the extra musical presence characteristic of animated films, film music often takes on a rare role here: becoming a source of humor. In the next part of the "Music in Movies" series, with the help of Laci Pirisi and Petra Grisnik, we explore how musical tools can grotesquely exaggerate the nature of a film scene in a cartoonish way, or trivialize its drama, and how the movement of characters can be illustrated in a way that evokes comic effects every time, how we can play with tempo, orchestration, and artfully placed pauses, to ensure the blend of image and sound results in at least a smile on faces.
