Jazz Initiation Concert with the Modern Art Orchestra
Bathing freely in music – this is the motto of the trumpet player and artistic director of the Modern Art Orchestra (MAO) Kornél Fekete-Kovács, who created the orchestra's programme for youth audiences in 2019. In this interactive concert, a chamber music formation will present an educational programme that showcases the joy of the creative process and listening to music through the characteristics of jazz.
The MAO's creative team invites interested young people on a musical journey. What makes music great? What is freedom in music? Why are limits important? Why is it important to let children play, improvise and create melodies? Testing the boundaries between classical music and jazz, the show playfully shines a light on the similarities and parallels between the two genres, while naturally delving into their differences, too. The programme, which will primarily feature classic jazz pieces and reworkings of the same, employs an accessible and entertaining approach to present the fundamental tenets, modes of expressions and universal nature of music. In this unusual, creative and experience-centered performance embedded in play, the audience is invited to break down its own barriers and bring its the experience of creativity to the surface.
