Baxter Dury (UK) | Fabienne Débarre (FRA)

One of the most diverse and reliable singer-songwriters of the past two decades, Baxter Dury – who crossed indie-pop with synth-funk and neo-soul – drew a line in 2021, closing a period in his musical career with a best of album and by publishing his memoirs. He then opened a new chapter with his seventh solo album, I Thought I Was Better Than You, released in the summer of 2023. Baxter, whose father Ian Dury was also a rock star, now takes his turn with this introspective album, performing for a Hungarian audience for the first time at the House of Music on 20 April 2024. Before Baxter Dury, Fabienne Débarre, also known from the indie-synthpop French duo Evergreen, will also make her Hungarian debut at the House of Music.

Baxter Dury released his first album in 2002 with a thirty-year-old head, no wonder he immediately came out with mature, elaborate material. No wonder he waited so long to introduce himself, as he had a troubled childhood and youth. In the first two decades of the 21st century, he gained great acclaim for his great albums every few years both among critics and audiences, but for the first time after the end of his career in 2021, he also faced the burden of his famous father (the punk songwriter-performer Ian Dury).  Baxter is undoubtedly a musician in his own right, now casually venturing into more abstract musical ideas and constantly renewing his own storytelling style, which it would be a mistake not to experience live.

Fabienne Débarre

While Evergreen, also released on the Moshi Moshi label, has released new material in 2023 with summery, loose, synth-funk songs, singer-keyboardist Fabienne Débarre, who has collaborated with Baxter Dury several times (and even collaborated with garage-punk band Slaves), also released her first solo album in January 2024 after her 2023 debut solo EP. Welcome To The Age Of Broken Minds is the first stop in a promising career, with electropop, sparkling, dream-pop songs. Débarre made the album with Mark Neary, a sound engineer known for Placebo and Noel Gallagher, whom he met through collaborations with Baxter Dury, and it was fitting for him to present his first self-titled album on a Baxter tour – also in Hungary.
